With nearly 20 years experience designing consumer products for the sporting goods industry and over a decade spent as the chief designer for Under Armour's most iconic sunglass designs, Tipp has the experience to deliver true innovation with exceptional style. Having designed well over 200 unique sport, lifestyle and youth silhouettes, Tipp is recognized and credited in all design and utility patents for UA Eyewear including the tool-free football visor clip as seen in the NFL. He was instrumental in advancing sunglass technologies to drive a unique point of view on design; allowing UA to stand out in a crowded market.
A 2015/16 Red-Dot Design award recipient for eyewear with removable fabric sleeves + 2017 Red-Dot Design award recipient for Hickies lacing system, Tipp has the ability to challenge conventional norms, and push boundaries to envision a new, superior future for us.
With over 35 US + Foreign registered patents held including; the 180s behind-the-head ear warmer, sunglasses with rotating temples, running jacket with on-demand venting, X-hale self-heating cold weather glove, U.S. Military's desert combat soft-shell jacket, Kelsyus spring float loungers + Collapsible beach mats, Tipp is among the few that embraces new radical ideas and concepts and is driven to approach projects differently.

Ever since I was a young kid I've been fascinated with how things work. Richard Scary books, LEGO's, my father's sketches... all intrigued my sense of wonder. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I realized if I wanted a unique solution, I had to make something custom myself. I started installing car stereos and building subwoofer enclosures to fit into my friends cars so that they appeared to be "stock". At the time I was unaware, but I was designing, I was creating, I was solving problems. What grew from a passion turned into a path that would ultimately guide my career.
Crafting and building led me to the field of industrial design. As I studied, I would analyze the design and engineering details of everyday objects that most people interact with without conciousness or awareness. I would fill pages with concept sketches and would experience those eureka moments where you think to yourself, "Why hasn't this been done before?". I never felt that school adequetly prepared its design students to think like marketers or entrepreneurs. I thought, "Ideas are one thing, but not if they were kept in a sketchbook". I was interested in production and invention, but how would I share my ideas with the rest of the world? How would I leave my mark as a creative person stuck in an often business focused world?
Upon graduation, I went to work at a consumer products company and so began my passion to blend product design with marketing and branding. I worked alongside such talented people who walked with a purpose. I watched the struggles we faced as a company and as new brand and I learned about methods that worked as well as the pitfalls to avoid. I carried these lessons onto my next endeavor and had a front row seat as the head of creative for a global, sports eyewear brand. While I could design freely, I would ultimately find constraint due to the rules of a brand and the reality of being a licensee.
As an independant designer, running my own brand, promoting my own services, and working on wide-reaching projects, I have the opportunity and knowhow to bring several creative disciplines together to explore the effectiveness of solutions and the potential of what makes design great. Aligning my business knowledge, practice and strategy has allowed me to promote the value of branding and creativity to support meaningful differentiation.
As we move forward towards the end of the year and into next year, I hope to help individuals, artisans, and businesses build a brand or product that can engage relationships with their customers or community, promote experiences and accelerate their growth. Cheers!
